The Maryland Motor Vehicle Power of Attorney (Form VR-470) is the framework used for the conveyance of powers from one party to another so that they may act as the principal in regard to signing paperwork relative to the registering or transferring of an automobile. For this to come to fruition, the owner(s) of the vehicle must deliver the form with information regarding themselves, their attorney-in-fact, and the automobile. After entering the facts surrounding the arrangement, the owner(s) is/are compelled to sign the document in order to commence the principal-agent relationship recorded within the form.

Definition – “Power of attorney” means a writing or other record that grants authority to an agent to act in the place of the principal, whether or not the term “power of attorney” is used (§ 17-101(d)).
Signing Requirements – Demands the signature of the owner (and co-owner if applicable).
