The Alaska Minor (Child) Power of Attorney is used when a parent needs somebody else to perform certain functions in their name regarding a child under the age of eighteen (18) years old. The agreement is most commonly used when a child is temporarily away from the parent, with another family member, close friend, or nanny, and requires parental authorization. The powers’ validity only lasts for a short-term period, with a maximum of one (1) year. If the parent(s) would like a longer-term arrangement, then he/she/they will have to formally renew the contract upon its expiration. The form requires all signatures to be captured in the presence of a notary public.
