The South Dakota Motor Vehicle Power of Attorney appoints a designated agent the approval to act and communicate on behalf of a vehicle owner regarding a specific automobile or vessel. The document, provided by the South Dakota Department of Revenue, permits an alternate agent the authority to perform tasks related to the assigned vehicle. The attorney-in-fact will gain privileges to transfer, title, and register the designated motor vehicle. Upon completion of the document, it can be verified by a notary’s corroboration and submitted along with the associated registration/title materials to register the event. Submission of the document can be carried out in person at the applicable local county treasurer’s office.

Definition – “Property,” anything that may be the subject of ownership, whether real or personal, legal or equitable, or any interest or right in the subject (§ 59-12-1(10)).
Signing Requirements – Acceptance of the form will require notarization by a state-licensed individual (§ 59-12-4).
