How to Register a Boat
Oregon requires all motorboats, regardless of length, and sailboats 12 feet or longer to be titled and registered with the Oregon State Marine Board. This can be arranged by visiting a boat registration agent and supplying the following:
- Application for Boat Title/Registration
- Bill of Sale, if needed as proof of ownership.
- Detailed boat history form, if the boat has never been titled anywhere.
- Hull Identification Number inspection, if required.
- Manufacturer’s Statement of Origin, if the boat is new.
- Oregon Certificate of Title, signed and dated by all listed owners, if the boat was previously titled in Oregon.
- Payment for title and registration fees.
Out-of-State Purchase
- Original out-of-state title, with releases from all owners, if the boat came from a title state.
- Title-state ownership printout and lost-title/release form, if the out-of-state title is lost.
Oregon title transfers should be submitted within 30 days to avoid a late transfer penalty. Recreational documented vessels used in Oregon waters for more than 60 consecutive days must also be registered with the Marine Board.
