The New Mexico Minor Child Power of Attorney creates a binding legal document designed to distribute a parent’s exclusive controls regarding a child to an appointed outside party. The contract effectively grants powers to the designated agent for a short-term duration that cannot exceed a six (6) month period. The arrangement apportions a detailed issuance of endorsed actions, allowing the attorney-in-fact to sign for the minor in place of the parent. The paperwork can be useful when the parent is absent due to vocational commitments, illness, or incarceration. For parents that wish to alternatively bestow rights to a family member on a longer-term basis, an Order Appointing Temporary Kinship Guardian(s) (Form 4A-510) can be filed with the New Mexico Court System.
