The Maine Motor Vehicle Power of Attorney aids individuals within the state who need someone else to handle a vehicle transaction on their behalf. Such acts that an agent could perform in the principal’s name using this form include; registering a vehicle, applying for a title, selling/purchasing an automobile, and obtaining new plates. To properly carry out this document, the conveying party must furnish it with the personal details of each party, a description of the motor vehicle involved, and their signature which is to be performed in front of an official for verification.

Definition – “Power of attorney” means a writing or other record that grants authority to an agent to act in the place of the principal, whether or not the term “power of attorney” is used (§ 5-902(7)).
