How to Register a Vehicle
Although renewal registration is available to complete online, finalizing the initial registration on a vehicle will require a visit to a West Virginia DMV location to present all applicable paperwork and fees. Make sure to come prepared with the following relevant forms and documentation:
- A valid form of I.D.
- Completed and notarized bill of sale.
- Title of the vehicle signed by seller and buyer, with the actual odometer reading notated.
- Filled out WV Application for Certificate of Title (DMV-1-TR) with a completed disclosure statement by the seller if the vehicle is ten years old or newer.

How to Register a Vessel
The Virginia DNR (Division of Natural Resources) stipulates that all watercrafts containing a motor must be titled and processed for registration. The DMV provides all the paperwork needed and handles the registration procedure. Visit a location most convenient for you and have the following ready to go:
- Proof of Ownership (bill of sale, Title, Manufacturer’s Statement of Origin)
- An Application for Certificate of Title for Motor Boat – Form DMV-MB-6
- Payment for any fees or taxes that apply to your vessel.
