West Virginia does not require its residents to get ahold of a permit prior to purchasing a weapon. There is no system of registration for firearms purchased, or owner licensure necessary. In the case an individual is between the ages of 18 and 20, a concealed pistol/revolver license will be mandated in order to carry in a concealed method. This license is not required for residents owning a gun, that have reached the age of 21 or older. If one is desired for travel out-of-state, it may be attained at the local Sheriff’s office upon application with the following materials:
- A completed and executed West Virginia State Police Application for Concealed Pistol/Revolver License.
- Certificate fulfilling the requirement for an approved firearm safety program.
- Active photo identification
- Payment for the application fee ($75) and background check fee ($25).
