How to Register a Vehicle
To register a vehicle in the state of Utah, the buyer must go to a Utah DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) with the following items:
- Bill of Sale (Form TC-843): Optional
- Existing Title: Required for new residents unless it is being held by a lienholder.
- Most Recent Registration
- Sales Tax and Fees: Due at the time of application for a permit, title, and registration.
- Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Inspection Certificate (Form TC-661): Required when a vehicle is titled or registered in Utah for the first time.

How to Register a Boat
All motorized/wind-powered watercraft operating on Utah waters must be titled and registered with the state. Drop by the nearest DMV location and have the following documentation listed below:
- Bill of Sale or title, as proof of ownership.
- Certificate of Inspection (Form TC-661), if the vessel is being titled in Utah for the first time.
- Government-issued identification for all listed owners.
- Payment for registration fees and the age-based uniform fee.
- Vessel Application for Utah Title and Registration (Form TC-656V)
Out-of-State Purchase
- Out-of-state title, if the vessel was titled in another state.
Utah does not list a simple post-sale registration grace period. The safer rule is to register before operating the boat on Utah waters. Nonresident boats properly registered in another state may be used in Utah for 60 days or fewer in a calendar year without Utah registration.
