In Oregon, the seller must notify the DMV of the sale within 10 days on DMV2U.
How to Register a Vehicle
Arrive at your closest Oregon DMV Branch with the following filings in hand:
- Bill of Sale (Form 735-501): Required if there are original releases or bills of sale from previous owners.
- Completed Title Application
- Lien Releases: Required from any previous security interest holders.
- Odometer Disclosure: Required between you and the seller if applicable.
- Original Title or Ownership Document: Use the certificate of origin if the vehicle is new.
- Registration and Plate Fees: Required if you are registering the vehicle.
- Title Fee
Out-of-State Purchase
- Use Tax Certificate: May be required if you bought the vehicle from an out-of-state dealer and it is brand new or has 7,500 miles or less.
- VIN Inspection: Required for a vehicle with an out-of-state or foreign title.
