Bill of Sale (Requirements)

  • Buyer’s information
    • Full name
    • Address
  • Seller’s information
    • Full name
    • Address
  • Vehicle information
    • Vehicle identification number (VIN)
  • Sale information
    • Date of sale
    • Statement releasing interest in the vehicle
  • Signatures
    • Seller’s signature

In Oregon, the seller must notify the DMV of the sale within 10 days on DMV2U.

How to Register a Vehicle

Arrive at your closest Oregon DMV Branch with the following filings in hand:

  • Bill of Sale (Form 735-501): Required if there are original releases or bills of sale from previous owners.
  • Completed Title Application
  • Lien Releases: Required from any previous security interest holders.
  • Odometer Disclosure: Required between you and the seller if applicable.
  • Original Title or Ownership Document: Use the certificate of origin if the vehicle is new.
  • Registration and Plate Fees: Required if you are registering the vehicle.
  • Title Fee

Out-of-State Purchase

  • Use Tax Certificate: May be required if you bought the vehicle from an out-of-state dealer and it is brand new or has 7,500 miles or less.
  • VIN Inspection: Required for a vehicle with an out-of-state or foreign title.
