Bill of Sale (Requirements)

In Oklahoma, if no bill of sale or purchase contract is available, Form 722-1 (Declaration of Vehicle Purchase Price) may be used to establish the purchase price, but it does not transfer ownership. Although Oklahoma does not specify specific requirements, these are common for a bill of sale:

    • Vehicle description (year, make, model)
    • Vehicle identification number (VIN)

How to Register a Vehicle

When purchasing a new vehicle in the state of Oklahoma, be sure to bring the following documentation to your nearest Oklahoma Tax Commission Tag Agency:

  • Bill of Sale: Optional, but helpful.
  • Form 701-6 – Application for Oklahoma Certificate of Title
  • Lien Information and Documentation: Required if applicable.
  • Odometer Disclosure Statement: Required for motor vehicles 2011 or newer if not included on the title.
  • Proof of Liability Insurance: Required for motor vehicles and must be issued pursuant to Oklahoma law.
  • Proof of Ownership: Such as an assigned Manufacturer’s Certificate of Origin for a new vehicle or an out-of-state title for a used vehicle.
  • Valid Driver License or FEI Number
