How to Register a Vehicle
When purchasing a new vehicle in the state of Oklahoma, be sure to bring the following documentation to your nearest Oklahoma Tax Commission Tag Agency:
- Bill of Sale: Optional, but helpful.
- Form 701-6 – Application for Oklahoma Certificate of Title
- Lien Information and Documentation: Required if applicable.
- Odometer Disclosure Statement: Required for motor vehicles 2011 or newer if not included on the title.
- Proof of Liability Insurance: Required for motor vehicles and must be issued pursuant to Oklahoma law.
- Proof of Ownership: Such as an assigned Manufacturer’s Certificate of Origin for a new vehicle or an out-of-state title for a used vehicle.
- Valid Driver License or FEI Number
How to Register a Boat
To fulfill the obligation to title and register a vessel, attend your closest regional Oklahoma MVD agency with the following required documentation in hand:
- Application for Certificate of Title for a Boat or Outboard Motor (BM-26)
- Bill of Sale, only if the vessel came from a state that does not title or register boats.
- Boat or Outboard Motor Serial Number Confirmation (BM-10), or serial inspection completed by Service Oklahoma on the BM-26.
- Manufacturer’s Statement of Origin, notarized, if the vessel is new.
- Notarized Statement from Owner, if the boat or motor was previously operated only on private ponds/lakes.
- Oklahoma Certificate of Title, properly assigned and notarized, if previously titled in Oklahoma.
- Payment for title, registration, and tax fees.
Out-of-State Purchase
- Out-of-state registration, if the boat came from a non-title state, plus a Bill of Sale if ownership is changing.
- Out-of-state title, properly assigned, if the boat came from a title state.
The new owner must title, register, and tax the boat within 30 days of ownership. Oklahoma boat registrations expire at the end of June and must be renewed by July 1.
Register a Firearm
There is no registration required for a new owner of a firearm.
