How to Register a Vehicle
You will then want to appear in person at your nearest local deputy registrar license agency equipped with the following required items:
- Application for Certificate of Title to a Motor Vehicle (Form BMV 3774)
- Bill of Sale
- Manufacturer’s Certificate of Origin (MCO): Must be assigned and notarized if required by the state where the vehicle was purchased.
- Odometer Disclosure Statement (Form BMV 3724): Required if applicable.
- Payment for Title Fees: Include lien notation fees if applicable.
- Sales Tax Payment: Due on the purchase price.
Notes
- Ohio titles are issued by the Clerk of Courts title office, not the BMV.
How to Register a Boat
Ohio requires recreational watercraft operated on Ohio waters to be registered through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. New registrations and transfers can be processed through an Ohio boat registration agent.
- Bill of Sale, if used as proof of ownership for a non-titled boat.
- Certified Watercraft Registration Application (DNR 8460R)
- Manufacturer’s Statement of Origin, if the boat is new.
- Ohio Certificate of Title, issued in the new owner’s name, if the boat is required to be titled.
- Payment for registration/title fees.
- Proof of ownership, such as an MSO, bill of sale, signed-over registration, or notarized affidavit of ownership.
Out-of-State Purchase
- Out-of-state registration, if the boat came from a non-title state.
- Out-of-state title, properly assigned, if the boat came from a title state.
Ohio requires titles for watercraft 14 feet or longer, watercraft under 14 feet with a permanently affixed mechanical motor of 10 horsepower or greater, and outboard motors of 10 horsepower or greater. Out-of-state boats properly registered elsewhere may be used in Ohio for 60 days or less without Ohio registration.

Register a Firearm
There is no registration required for a new owner of a firearm.
