How to Register a Boat

Register one at your local Nebraska DMV office along with the following:

  • Application for Boat Number and Certificate
  • Application for Certificate of Title, if the motorboat is required to be titled.
  • Bill of Sale, if required for proof of ownership or if the boat came from a non-title state.
  • Certificate of Title, properly assigned, if the boat was previously titled.
  • Manufacturer’s Statement of Origin, if the boat is new.
  • Payment for registration and title fees.
  • Proof of ownership, such as an MSO or properly assigned title.

Out-of-State Purchase

  • Out-of-state title, if the boat came from a title state.
  • Last registration and Bill of Sale, if the boat came from a state that does not issue boat titles.
  • Aquatic Invasive Species Stamp, if the motorized watercraft remains registered in another state and is operated in Nebraska.

The buyer must apply for a Nebraska certificate of title within 30 days after delivery of the motorboat. Motorboats registered in another state and housed in Nebraska for less than 60 consecutive days are exempt from Nebraska registration.
