How to Register a Vehicle

Arrive at your nearest local North Carolina DMV Office with the following forms and documentation:

Out-of-State Purchase

  • Current Out-of-State Registration Card
  • One Additional Residency Document: Non-North Carolina residents must also provide one of the following:
    • military ID for active-duty military stationed in North Carolina
    • student ID showing enrollment in a North Carolina college or university
    • Form MVR-614 showing the vehicle is garaged in North Carolina at least six months each year
    • court-ordered sale of the vehicle
    • registration for a motor home
