How to Register a Vehicle
Arrive at your nearest local North Carolina DMV Office with the following forms and documentation:
- The Vehicle Title, signed over in the presence of an Authorized Notary Public.
- A filled and signed North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles Title Application (MVR-1).
- A completed and endorsed North Carolina Damage Disclosure Statement (MVR-181).
- A detailed and accurate North Carolina Odometer Disclosure Statement (MVR-180), filled out and executed.
- Valid proof of active insurance within North Carolina (per North Carolina State Law § 20-309).
- Proper proof of identity with a valid North Carolina driver’s license or ID card.
- A Completed bill of sale.
- Payment for all fees and taxes. Cash, money order, or check are the accepted forms of payment at all North Carolina DMV facilities.
