How to Register a Vehicle
Visit a Mississippi DOR (Department of Revenue) located at your local tax collector’s office, and remember to bring the following documentation:
- Bill of Sale: useful
- Title from the Previous State: Required for a vehicle purchased in another state.
- Manufacturer’s Certificate of Origin: Required if the vehicle is not titled in the other state.
- Odometer Disclosure Statement: Required for a vehicle purchased in another state.

- Failure to register within 30 days results in standard late penalties and an additional $250 penalty.

How to Register a Boat
Mississippi requires boats equipped with propulsion machinery and sailboats using public waters to be registered. To begin the application process, assemble the following documents to present (or mail) to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks:
- Boat/Motor Title Application, if applying for an optional Mississippi boat or motor title.
- Dealer invoice, if purchased from a dealer.
- Hull Identification Number or serial number.
- Mississippi Motor Boat Registration Application.
- Notarized or witnessed Bill of Sale, if purchased from an individual.
- Payment for registration/title fees.
- Proof of Mississippi sales tax payment, if purchased from a dealer or out-of-state dealer.
- Proof of prior ownership/last registered owner, if applicable.
Out-of-State Purchase
- Copy of the out-of-state registration, if the boat was already registered in the applicant’s name in another state.
The buyer must register the boat no later than 10 days after purchase.

Register a Firearm
A new owner is not required to register a firearm in Mississippi.
