How to Register a Vehicle
The new owner has 30 days from the date of purchase to register the vehicle. Be sure to bring the vehicle in for an inspection and bring the necessary paperwork confirming that it has passed. Go to a DE DMV service center of your choice and present an agent with the following:
- Application for Delaware Title
- Bill of Sale, if applicable
- Driver’s License or Proper Identification
- Manufacturer’s Certificate of Origin: Must be properly transferred to the new owner.
- Proof of Liability Insurance: Acceptable proof includes an insurance card, insurance policy, or a letter from the insurance agent.
- Vehicle for Inspection: The vehicle must be presented at a Delaware DMV inspection facility.
Out-of-State Purchase
- Out-of-State Title: Must be in the owner’s name or properly transferred to the new owner.

How to Register a Boat
To register your vessel in person, make an appearance at your nearest Delaware Boat License Agent with the specified substantiated materials:
- Copy of valid ID, driver’s license, or passport.
- Hull Identification Number picture or pencil tracing/rubbing.
- Lien release, if applicable.
- Manufacturer’s Certificate of Origin or Builder’s Certificate, if the boat is new.
- Original Bill of Sale, if the Manufacturer’s Certificate of Origin or Builder’s Certificate is not assigned to the purchaser.
- Original title, if the boat was previously titled.
- Vessel Registration Application.
Out-of-State Purchase
- Original out-of-state title, if the boat was titled in another state.
- Photocopy of the seller’s most recent Certificate of Documentation, if the vessel was federally documented.
Delaware states that if a vessel is used, docked, or stowed on Delaware waters for more than 60 consecutive days, Delaware is considered the vessel’s state of principal use.

Register a Firearm
There is no requirement for individuals to register a firearm in Delaware.
