The South Dakota Minor Child Power of Attorney serves as a written understanding to grant temporary parental powers regarding a minor to a designated party. There are numerous possible scenarios where an alternate person may need to care for and represent a child as a guardian. For parents that may be absent due to a long-term vacation, employment, imprisonment, or military deployment, the option to authorize an agent or temporary guardian for a minor can be issued. This will allow the attorney-in-fact the right to sign and act on behalf of the parent for the child for areas related to health care, education, dental care. The principal parent must fill out the document with the requested information, indicating the name of the desired agent and child, and then sign before a notary to confirm the authorization.
