The Rhode Island Minor Child Power of Attorney equips a specified individual with temporary rights to act and care for a child at the request of the child’s parent(s). The written paperwork serves to register an alternate person to make decisions and sign for a minor when the parent is absent due to incarceration, military deployment, distance employment, or illness. For more simplified short-term arrangements, the POA grants powers to allow the designated agent to provide standard care and action on behalf of the parent. For situations that require longer-term solutions, temporary guardianship can be carried out by submitting a Rhode Island Temporary Guardianship Power of Attorney (Form PC-2.1) to the state courts for approval.
