How to Register a Vehicle

Gather the following necessary documentation to register your vehicle and attend your closet North Dakota Department of Transportation Office:

  • A fully filled out North Dakota Application for Certificate of Title & Registration of a Vehicle (Form SFN 2872).
  • The title to the vehicle has been completed and signed over to the buyer. If the vehicle is financed, you must come prepared with the lienholder’s name, address, and loan account number. You must present the out-of-state registration if the vehicle was previously registered in another state.
  • Proper identification via valid driver’s license, state ID, or official documentation proving legal identity.
  • All new vehicles must have a manufacturer’s Certificate of Origin and an Odometer Disclosure Statement signed by the dealer and buyer.
  • Monies to cover all fees and associated taxes, including the 5% excise tax.
