How to Register a Vehicle

Gather the following necessary documentation to register your vehicle and attend your closet North Dakota Department of Transportation Office:

Out-of-State Purchase

  • VIN Inspection: May be required for an out-of-state vehicle.

How to Register a Boat

Obtain registration for your vessel in person at your nearest local North Dakota Game and Fish Department location. Appear with the following assembled items:

  • Completed online watercraft registration application.
  • Payment for registration fees and the aquatic nuisance species fee, if applicable.
  • Proof of completed title or registration with signed detailed Bill of Sale, if purchased through a private sale.
  • Proof of tax paid or purchase invoice, if purchased from a dealer or business, and tax was not collected.

The buyer must submit the new watercraft registration within 15 days. Boats legally numbered in another state may be used in North Dakota for up to 90 days, but motorized out-of-state watercraft operated in North Dakota also need an annual aquatic nuisance species sticker.
