How to Register a Vehicle
To apply for registration online, you must first mail a completed Application for Certificate of Title (Form 205) to a BMV near you. Once approved, you must visit the MyBMV online registration portal and sign up for an online account (unless you already have an existing profile). Some required items needed for online registration include:
- Bill of Sale (Form 44237)
- Emissions Test: Required for residents of Lake and Porter counties.
- Proof of Address: If changing your legal address during the transaction, you must provide two proofs of address.
- Title: The vehicle must first be titled before it can be registered.
Out-of-State Purchase
- Indiana Title Required: A vehicle brought in from another state must still be titled before registration can be completed.
Notes
- Online registration is available only if the date of sale is less than 60 days old and the vehicle is not a lease vehicle.

Firearm Registration Forms
Indiana does not mandate registration of a procured firearm with any state agency. There is no need to get hold of a license to purchase or own a long gun or handgun. Open carry of a long gun within sanctioned areas will not necessitate individuals to acquire a permit, but to carry a handgun in either manner will require a Concealed Handgun License. This license also provides residents with reciprocity to travel with a weapon within the approved states. The application can be made online by initially visiting the Indiana New Applicant webpage. The following will be required to be completed within a time frame of 90 days of application:
- A fingerprint identification card made available at a participating fingerprinting service. An appointment can be arranged prior to your visit on the IdentoGO website.
- Attend your county sheriff’s office to pay the necessary fees and be designated a Handgun License Application Number.
