How to Register a Vehicle
To begin the registration process, you must appear in person before your local county assessor at an Idaho Transportation Department office with: You have up to 30 days to title and register your vehicle after the time of purchase in the state of Idaho. Once the 30 days expire, you can no longer legally operate your vehicle on public roadways.
- Bill of Sale: Helpful if needed as part of the title paperwork.
- Full Legal Name and Identification Number
- Idaho Title Documents: The vehicle must be titled in Idaho before registration can be completed.
- Odometer Disclosure: Required for vehicles newer than 2010 and weighing under 16,000 pounds.
- Proof of Insurance: The vehicle must be insured with a company licensed to do business in Idaho with at least the minimum coverage.
- Verifiable Physical Address and Mailing Address
Out-of-State Purchase
- Idaho Title Required: A vehicle purchased out of state must still be titled in Idaho before it can be registered.

Boat (Vessel) Registration Forms
- A filled and signed bill of sale
- A completed Idaho Boat Registration Application can be picked up on location at the ITD facility.
- A reassigned tile for the vessel
- Evidence of the passing of the Idaho Boating Safety Course exam made available online.
- A clearly visible photograph of the boat’s hull identification number
- An identifying document to correspond with the watercraft upon registration via an identification card, driver’s license, social security card, or EIN card.
- Resources to settle the amount of all incurred fees for vessel registration and/or titling.
Register a Firearm
Idaho does not require a new firearm owner to register a firearm.
