Prohibited from Purchasing
- Minors. Under 16 years of age, under 18 years for “long guns,” and under 21 years for handguns if purchased from a licensed dealer.
- Convicted felons.
- Persons addicted to controlled substances.
- Habitual drunkards.
- If determined to be mentally ill, incompetent, or involuntarily committed to a psychiatric facility.
- Fugitives from justice.
- Aliens illegally in the country or under a non-immigrant visa.
- If renounced U.S. citizenship.
- If under a court order restraining them from harassing or stalking an intimate partner or child.
- If convicted of a violent crime or misdemeanor offense of domestic violence, or a felony.
- If dishonorably discharged from the U.S. Armed Forces.
