Prohibited from Purchasing

  • Minors. Under 16 years of age, under 18 years for “long guns,” and under 21 years for handguns if purchased from a licensed dealer.
  • Convicted felons.
  • Persons addicted to controlled substances.
  • Habitual drunkards.
  • If determined to be mentally ill, incompetent, or involuntarily committed to a psychiatric facility.
  • Fugitives from justice.
  • Aliens illegally in the country or under a non-immigrant visa.
  • If renounced U.S. citizenship.
  • If under a court order restraining them from harassing or stalking an intimate partner or child.
  • If convicted of a violent crime or misdemeanor offense of domestic violence, or a felony.
  • If dishonorably discharged from the U.S. Armed Forces.
