How to Register a Vehicle
Go to the Wisconsin DMV to apply for title and/or license plates, or use eMV Public to apply online.
- Bill of Sale: Helpful
- Driver License or Identification Card: A Wisconsin driver license or identification card is required for the online process.
- Lien Release: Required if a lienholder is listed on the front of the title and the loan has been paid off.
- Odometer Reading: Required on the back of the title for vehicles model year 2011 and newer.
- Title: The original title must be signed by the seller.
- Title and License Plate eApplication/Receipt: Required if applying online and mailing in the documents afterward.
Notes
- You must display Wisconsin license plates or a temporary plate within 2 business days of purchase to legally operate the vehicle.
- After completing the online transaction, you must mail the required original documents to:

Boat (Vessel) Registration Forms
- Bill of Sale
- Wisconsin Boat Registration and Titling Application (Form 9400-193)
- Evidence of ownership of the vessel via a properly transferred title, manufacturer’s certificate of origin, or former vessel registration.
Register a Firearm
Wisconsin does not require a new firearm owner to register a firearm.
