The Nevada DMV bill of sale form (Form VP104) is an essential document when selling or buying a vehicle. It requires certain information regarding the sale such as the contact information of both parties, vehicle specifics, and the sales price. The seller and purchaser should reserve a copy for their records as the agreement could come in handy for tax purposes, if the buyer needs proof of purchase, or to exonerate the seller from any liability in the event of vehicle abandonment. If the seller no longer possesses the title and the vehicle is over 9 model years in age with no active liens, a bill of sale must be executed and presented along with an Application for Duplicate Nevada Certificate of Title (Form VP012).

How to Register a Vehicle

If you have purchased your vehicle in a private sale or it was gifted, you have 30 days to register the vehicle with the state of Nevada. To process your vehicle, go to a Nevada DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) that is convenient for you and have the following on hand:

  • Bill of sale
  • Proof of ownership (either the title signed by the preceding owner of the vehicle or a security agreement from a financial institution)
  • A Nevada issued insurance card proving the presence of an active auto policy.
  • A completed Application for Vehicle Registration (Form VP-222) that is signed by the new owner.
  • A report confirming a passed emissions test performed by an authorized professional at an inspection station (some vehicles are exempt from this requirement).
  • An odometer reading if the vehicle is under 10 years of age (this can be recorded on the title).
  • If the vehicle was not previously registered in the state of Nevada, the individual registering must present a Vehicle Inspection Certificate (Form VP15).
  • Come prepared with the necessary funds to satisfy any registration/tax costs.
