The Idaho firearm (gun) bill of sale form is a voluntary option, not necessarily required by law. Although it is optional, it is considered to be a beneficial document to have on record in case a situation ever arises that involves either party needing to provide proof of sale or purchase. Before executing this document, ensure that the buyer is of legal age and not prohibited by law (under Idaho Code § 18-3316). At the time of transfer, fill in the necessary fields with the information requested, such as; the transferor’s/transferee’s contact details, description of the firearm, and transaction specifics. The agreement must be concluded with all parties signing in the designated section (this should be performed under the examination of a notary public).
How to Register a Gun
No law or rule specifies that residents of Idaho have to process their firearms at a local government registry. Idaho is thought of as a relatively lenient state when it comes to gun regulation. Licenses/Permits are not required to purchase, sell, or carry (openly or concealed) within the state as long as the person is of age. Even though a permit to carry is not necessary, the state gives individuals the option to attain this privilege, as it grants certain advantages such as reciprocity with other states.
How to Obtain a Concealed Carry Permit
If a resident of Idaho would like to achieve a Concealed Weapons License, they must be 21 years or older (18 or older with special provisions) and meet all the mandatory qualifications. To apply, personally appear before your local county sheriff’s office to submit the following:
- Proof of Identity (a state-issued form of ID will suffice)
- An executed copy of the Concealed Weapons License Application (Form 072016).
- Fingerprints administered by a law enforcement professional.
- Must pass a state-approved gun course and provide a completed CWP Training Certificate (Form 072013) signed by an authorized instructor.
- Payment for the necessary fees that are charged when applying for the permit:
- Original License Fee – $20
- Renewal Fee – $15
- Additional processing fees may be imposed.
After the submission of your application, the department in charge of handling CWL filings will review the paperwork for approval. If approved, you will be distributed your license which will remain valid for five years. (Read Idaho Code § 18-3302 for more information about the state’s concealed weapon laws.)

Step 3 – Firearm/Gun Description – Have the following specific details pertaining to the firearm on hand to distinguish the exact rifle, pistol, or shotgun being exchanged:
- Manufacturer (Make)
- Model
- Caliber
- Serial Number
Step 4 – Sale or Trade Specifics – Once both parties have determined the terms and conditions of the transaction, the following inquiries must be addressed as followed:
- Sales Price? (in written fashion)
- Sales Price? (in numerical fashion)
- Month, day, and year in which the transfer is being conducted.
- If trade, individuals must check the indicating box and supply a brief synopsis of how the transaction will be carried out.
Step 5 – Written Disclosures – Each side of the transaction is presented with a set of disclosure statements. It is the responsibility of both parties to review their specified paragraph and sign below if they vow that the declarations made are factual.
Step 4 – Signatory Section – Solidify the form by having participants supply the following requirements listed below:
- Seller Signature
- Seller Printed Name
- Buyer Signature
- Buyer Printed Name
- Witness #1 Signature
- Witness #1 Printed Name
- Witness #2 Signature
- Witness #2 Printed Name
Signing should occur under the review of a notary public, and if satisfied, the official will then validate the form by filling out the proper sections.
